Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument Certificate
The Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument adds instrument instruction privileges to your current Flight Instructor Certificate. Similiar to the CFI certificate, there are no flight time requirements outside the 3 hours of test preparation. The success of this course is largely dependent on your current instrument proficiency and your ability to teach in this advanced environment.
Cost
As this is an add-on certificate, you are only required to fly an IFR certified airplane. All of Trade Winds' Cessna 172’s are IFR certified. If you wish to complete your certificate in a different make or model aircraft, please visit our fleet page for price differences.

REQUIREMENTS:
61.183 – Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for a Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument, a person must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
- Hold a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Privileges or Airline Transport Certificate
- Hold a current Certified Flight Instructor Certificate
- Hold at least a current second class medical certificate.
- Pass a written exam on the on the aeronautical knowledge areas of FAR 61.185 (a) (2) and (a) (3).
- Receive flight training and a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor who:
- 1) Has conducted the training in the areas of operation listed in FAR 61.187(b)
- 2.) Has certified that the person is prepared for the required practical test.
- Pass a practical test on the areas of operation listed in FAR 61.187.
